Dentigerous Cysts

A dentigerous cyst occurs as a result of a tooth which fails to erupt. The embedded tooth never sheds its follicle and becomes a fluid filled cyst. These cysts can be very destructive. As they grow they destroy surrounding bone and neighboring teeth. These are typically painful. Any pet with a missing tooth should have dental radiographs to determine if the tooth is unerupted. If an unerupted tooth is diagnosed it should be treated. If you suspect that your dog has a missing tooth, please contact our office to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors.
