Tooth Restoration for Dogs and Cats in Boxborough
As part of our extensive dentistry services, we offer veterinary prosthodontics and restorative dentistry for dogs and cats. This is the area of dentistry that involves placing crowns and fillings, and reconstructing teeth. You don’t have to own a dog to know how much they like to chew things. Many times, they like to chew on things they shouldn’t, which can damage their teeth or make them more prone to fracture over time. It can also result in painful pulp exposure. This is just one of the many examples of when prosthodontic care can help.
Our AAHA-accredited practice maintains the highest standards when it comes to our prosthodontic and restorative services. We use the safest surgical and anesthetic protocols, so you can be confident that your pet will be in the best of hands here at Veterinary Dental Services. Please feel free to let us know of any questions or concerns you have about your pet’s restorative treatment during the initial consultation.
Veterinary Prosthodontic and Restorative Services
- Dental Crowns: If your pet’s teeth are worn or fractured, they can be restored with dental crowns. Crowns are used to either completely cover or partially cover a worn tooth to prevent it from further damage and to protect a restoration after root canal therapy. If the teeth have already been fractured, they can also benefit from crowns as a means of strengthening them and preventing the need for extraction. Crowns can either be tooth-colored (zirconium), or metal (titanium); both materials are strong, and choosing between one or the other is merely a matter of aesthetics.
- Fillings/Composite Restorations: Just like humans, dogs can develop cavities (caries), which can be painful if left untreated. We use a composite resin material to fill these caries, which eliminates tooth sensitivity and helps the tooth return to normal function. We may also restore enamel defects with restorative materials.
